AMENITIES & SERVICES
|
|
What to expect: This grande dame of Arizona hotels maintains early 20th-century charm while offering modern amenities such as high-speed Internet access. Knickers-clad staff and a huge, fireplace-equipped lobby with overstuffed furniture evoke the elegance that attracted film legends such as Fred Astaire, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, and Gloria Swanson. This hotel appeals to those who enjoy a small-town pace, convenient golfing, and walkable destinations. Amenity highlights: Built in 1928, the resort's 18-hole golf course is a charming "in-town" layout adjacent to the hotel. Two heated pools, lighted tennis courts, jogging trails, a complete fitness center, and a gift shop make for a self-contained resort. The concierge arranges activities from river rafting to hot air balloon excursions. Insider tip: Rambaugh's television repair shop across the street has been in business for a half-century. Its friendly owner will gladly share his amazing collection of restored historic radios and television sets. Next door is Cupid's, a recreated 1950s diner that's a good spot for lunch.
